G Webb Automation Ltd enables leading Croatian soft drink company to launch new product.
Speed was the key for the Croatian market leader in soft drink and beverages. A new product targeted at a summer launch was predicted to become a huge success and demand would require a production line able to produce 160 filled containers per minute.
Production Director, Ivan Pavalic “Predicted sales forecasts meant I had to have spare capacity to cope during the summer season demand, speed and accuracy were my main requirements”.
Ivan approached G Webb Automation Ltd as he knew of their 35 years experience handling large turnkey projects involving the need for design and project management. With a number of specialist suppliers providing un-scramblers, cappers, sterilisers, foil sealers and checkweigh systems, in essence providing a total solution to a powder filling line.
The G Webb Solution
The design of container which required 25g of fruit drink powder was unusual as the section holding the product would be located inside an inner neck with a threaded outer neck which would be screwed over the top of a bottle containing carbonated water.
This narrow internal filling area combined with a drinking surface that could not be scratched meant conventional filling methods were unsuitable, on top of which the final product needed to be sterilized.
An RP760 RotoPlant was recommended as it is able to cope with the speed of 160 containers filled per minute. Using a 16 pocket turret and specially designed infeed and outfeed rails along the conveyor keeping the drinking area free of abrasion the system was tested and approved for use in the product launch.
Speed tests proved accurate, in fact the RP 760 was able to accurately achieve speeds over the required 160 containers per minute.
“Demand is high for the new product, the RP 760 has enabled us to produce units in keeping with demand, safe in the knowledge that when we increase output we still maintain dosing weights within tolerance”. Ivan Pavalic
